Irojiten means colour encyclopedia or colour dictionary in Japanese. The Tombow Irojiten Color Dictionary was conceptualised to bring to mind an encyclopedia of colour. The packaging is crafted to resemble bound books. Volume 7, 8 and 9 are designed to evoke the mood of a seascape.
The exceptional quality of the packaging concept reflects the quality of the contents. The pencils’ bodies are a luxuriant glossy off-white with rounded coloured ends that match the lead colour. Created for professional artists, the leads are wax-based and produce a soft, creamy texture. The colours blend smoothly and layer well, without a waxy build-up.
Volume 7, Fluorescence comprises Plastic Pink, Surprise Red, Equatorial Orange, Sunset Orange, Dazzling Sun, Firefly Yellow, Lightning Yellow, Neon Green, Flash Green, and Vigorous Green.
Volume 8, Very Pale Tone contains Cameo Pink, Almond Blossom, Ecru, Eggshell, Asparagus, Opal Green, Cascade, Horizon Blue, Lupine, and Verbena.
Volume 9, Dull Tone consists of Cedar Wood, Cinnamon, Oil Yellow, Sage Green, Verdigris, Hummingbird, Jay Blue, Hydrangea Blue, Heather, and Tyrian purple.
